In August 2019 Granville East Public School commissioned me to paint a mural inspired by Mallee Sky illustrations on a building in their new eco garden site.

It was an exciting project with both scale and medium (house paint) presenting new challenges.

I started by drawing a design sketch to scale. Then using the natural grid of the building, hand sketched on the drawing using a graphite stick attached to the end of a fishing rod. This way I could reach the height of the building and also step back to see the drawing as I did it. I used a combination of mini rollers and house paint brushes for the painting.

The staff and students at Granville East were so supportive and enthusiastic during the progress. I loved being a part of their fantastic school community for four weeks. Some students helped paint the bottom sections of the mural. Thank you so much Granville East for this opportunity!
